CFC brings TOPSoccer to Salem
SALEM, Ore. — Capital Futbol Club is excited to start TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) in Salem this spring. This TOPSoccer program is set to bring inclusion to the soccer field and create opportunities as well as grow relationships in our community.
TOPSoccer is a community-based training program developed by US Youth Soccer for all athletes with intellectual, emotional, and or physical disabilities. The program strives to provide soccer opportunities for players to develop at their own pace in a safe, fun, supportive, and inclusive environment.
“We are very excited to offer this type of program to our community programming,” says CFC’s Director of Coaching, Joe Wentworth. “With the Salem-Keizer School District being the second largest school district in Oregon, we felt it necessary to add such an inclusive environment to our club. The integration of our community members with special needs and interaction with our club players as “buddies” is such an awesome experience to witness in person and proves that CFC is more than a soccer club.”
JoAnna Fields (currently CFC Marketing Director) will serve as the director of the CFC TOPSoccer program. Fields has spent the last 11 years working with the special needs community. Prior to her time at CFC, JoAnna worked as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) as well as volunteered at Camp Attitude, a camp in Oregon that works to serve people affected by disabilities. She became TOPSoccer certified in 2020 and is excited to officially start the program.
CFC’s 8-week TOPSoccer program will kick-off Saturday, April 9 at Salem Indoor (4701 Portland Rd NE). TWO sessions will be held for one hour each. Athletes can choose between a 10-11am to 11:30am-12:30pm session. Salem Indoor is an indoor soccer facility featuring an enclosed turf field and lobby seating where spectators can watch.
Each session will include coaching staff and volunteers to help assist each participant. Sessions will be geared based off players needs, including adaptable equipment and flexibility.
