SALEM, Ore. – Collin Box, Capital FC’s Executive Director, has been awarded the Outstanding Young Professional Award presented by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.

On Monday, March 20th, Chamber Chief Executive, Tom Hoffert, surprised Collin at his downtown office occupied by a camera crew, fellow Chamber members, Box’s family, and other community members to award the Outstanding Young Professional honor.

Since 1950, the Salem Chamber has honored those who exemplify servant leadership with the First Citizen Awards. These are individuals who — through their business, volunteering, and philanthropic efforts — improve the lives of those in the community by serving first.

“I feel very honored,” says Box. “This award is also a testament to the value of soccer as service to our community, and I hope that I can live up to the legacy of service that others who have received this award before me have done for Salem.”

Box has been a part of Capital FC since 1995 when he started playing soccer at just 5 years old. Box played at CFC until age 18. After his playing career was cut short by injury, Box returned to his childhood club as coach. Box took the Executive Director position in 2011 and has been the leading force behind complex development and growth.

Since 2019, Capital FC has more than doubled its number of participants, serving over 4,000 Salem-area youth. In 2022 alone, the club awarded over $160,000 in scholarships as well as brought back programs GRASSP (GrassRoots After School Program) and TOPSoccer (a program designed specifically for athletes with special needs).

The First Citizen Awards Banquet will be coming April 8th and recognizes individuals in the categories of Outstanding Young Professional, Distinguished Service Award, and the Salem Chamber’s highest individual honor, the First Citizen Award.
