Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Brings 200+ Community Members to CFC
SALEM, Ore. — Over 200 guests stepped foot on Capital FC’s new turf field to take part in the Ribbon Cutting ceremony for Ed Davison Field last Friday.
The new turf at Pioneer Sports Park, Capital FC’s complex, completes Phase II in a three-phase development plan of the sports complex, turning the longtime home of CFC into a premier, regional multi-sport complex serving both local organizations and hosting regional and national events.
The turf was the highlight of the event. Named after Ed Davison, founder of the Sprague Sabres soccer club and a pioneer of soccer in the Salem area, the fields are one of only 20 in the United States to meet the international standards for FIFA PRO Quality Turf.
The ceremony started with a word from Collin Box, CFC’s Executive Director, who gave a background on the field’s development and the impact they will have moving forward.
“This field is built on a foundation that extends long ago to the beginnings of Salem United Soccer Club,” said Box. “We are excited for this development and the value these fields will bring to our community.”
Ty Davison, the son of Ed Davison, then gave a tribute to his father. Ed’s legacy of teaching life lessons through sport, creating opportunities for low income kids to participate, and using sport as a way to change the trajectory of kids’ lives will be furthered as a result of these fields.

Marion County Commissioner, Colm Willis, also gave remarks about the value of sport in a healthy community and celebrated the accomplishments of the leadership of CFC for the completion of a valued project for the community.
Salem Chamber President Tom Hoffert, concluded the ceremony with remarks about the value of sport and the impact youth sports have on businesses in the Salem community, creating jobs and driving spending in our city.
The ceremony was held in “CFC” style, with kids playing on the soccer fields with their siblings and parents, as well as tacos for all. Sport has a unique power to unite, and this ceremony was no exception.
